The adoption of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development brought about the global targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All three pillars of the SDGs rely on ICT and digital technologies as key catalysts. They can reduce extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity by improving the flow of information and services, decreasing the relevance of distance and costs associated with it, expanding potential markets for businesses, providing opportunities for economic diversification, and serving as a source of employment.
It is our belief that Ethiopia is just scratching the surface on technological solutions to advance the lives and livelihoods of its citizens. We created K-flip Knowledge Hub to share knowledge, accumulated within organizations and individuals, with all industry players interested in operating and growing in the digital ecosystems in Ethiopia.
Despite considerable progress in achieving global gender parity, inequalities faced by women remain a major global challenge. The picture in Ethiopia is mixed with achievements in the political arena such as 50% of women as cabinet Ministers in 2019 but significant and persistent gender inequalities as reflected in our gender inequality score of ranking 121 out of 160 countries. Several studies have shown that a more gender-balanced world would increase economic benefits for all. Kifiya is purposeful about having targets for including female participation in all our businesses and will be publishing our results in this space.
